For a bicoastal family with roots on both coasts, this Chevy Chase residence was never meant to be an everyday house. It was designed to be a gathering place — an East Coast basecamp where the whole family returns, reconnects, and comes together around a shared table.
Zee Design led the interiors, and every decision traced back to a single question: how do people gather here? The family hosts their annual Thanksgiving in this home, so the spaces were shaped to hold a full table — warm, welcoming, and ready for a crowd. Rooms that feel calm and intimate for two, and effortless when the house fills with fifteen.
The result is a contemporary residence where modern lines are balanced by warmth: natural materials, a restrained palette, and layered texture throughout. It's a home built less around daily routine and more around reunion — the people who come back to it, and how it feels when they do.

Located in McLean, Virginia, this contemporary residence was conceived as a study in contrast, an intentionally restrained street façade paired with a dramatically open rear elevation.
